Jetstar Pacific fights back
September 14, 2012 by Rapeepat Mantanarat
HO CHI MINH CITY, 14 September 2012: Jetstar Pacific Airlines says it will make improvements to services as it faces fierce competition in Vietnam’s domestic market.
There are currently four airlines offering domestic services: Vietnam Airlines, Air Mekong, Jetstar Pacific Airlines and Vietjet Air.
Vietjet Air started operation late last year, but is aggressive in its marketing campaign and expanding its network at the expense of Jetstar.
Jetstar Pacific marketing manager, Cao Hong Phoung, told TTR Weekly at the 8th International Travel Expo 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City that to compete the airline would need to upgrade and build a younger fleet, grow the network and improve services for passengers.
The carrier will replace older B737 with two newer A320s by the end of this year giving the airline seven A320s. The carrier plans to grow the fleet to 15 A320s by 2015.
New domestic routes and frequency increases are on the table, but Mr Phoung said the airline could not give any details. He did hint that the airline wanted to establish regional services from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore and Jakarta.
On the ground the airline will invest in self check-in kiosks this October at Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang airports.
Jetstar Pacific routes currently are Hanoi-Danang, Hano-Nha Trang; Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City-Hue, Ho Chi Minh City-Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City-Vinh.
